Craegmoor, the leading provider of specialist care and support to people with learning disabilities, autism, complex needs, mental illnesses and older people, unveiled its new Parkhill House service on Friday 31st July to local healthcare professionals. Formerly a day care centre for older people, Parkhill House will now provide residential care and support to four people with learning disabilities.
The new service, named by children in years four and five at Lochwinnoch Primary School, aims to prepare people for more independent living and will draw on its countryside setting to provide a range of fun outdoor activities including walks, basketball and water sports. Activities will not, however, be confined to outdoors with the help of a multi-purpose activities room and sensory activities including massage and aromatherapy.
Care and support at Parkhill House is intensive with a one-to-one staff ratio. All staff are working towards NVQ Level 3 and have undergone rigorous training in autism, epilepsy and person-centred thinking.
The service joins one existing Craegmoor service for learning disabilities in Lochwinnoch – Garpel House – and it is hoped that Parkhill House will establish the same good relationships with the local community that Garpel House already enjoys.
Ted Smith, Craegmoor’s Chief Executive Officer, said today:
“ The development of Parkhill House demonstrates Craegmoor’s commitment to providing specialist high quality care and support to people with learning disabilities. We hope that the personalised support provided will enable people to live more independently in the future.
We hope to announce further similar service developments in Lochwinnoch in the near future .”
