Luton & Bedfordshire People To Benefit As Craegmoor Announces New Supported Living Service
07 November 2008
Craegmoor Healthcare, a leading provider of specialist support to people with learning disabilities, mental health illnesses and other needs, today announces the opening of a new supported living service in Luton.
Cherrytree House is a new 12 bed shared accommodation residence for people with mental health needs that has been developed in partnership with Luton Borough Council’s Supporting People Team to address a real need for such services in the local area.
Residents of Cherrytree House – all of whom are from the Luton area – are to be supported by Craegmoor staff to help develop daily living skills, as well as being provided with help to allow them to undertake voluntary or part-time work.
Situated next door to Craegmoor’s existing Cherrywood House supported living services, Cherrytree House was named by its new residents after being inspired by their neighbouring home.
Cherrywood House Manager Kathy Maclean, who has been instrumental in developing the service, said today:
“This is great news for supported living in Luton. There is a real need in Luton for this type of new accommodation and we are very proud to have been able to work in partnership with Luton Borough Council in order to deliver it”.
Craegmoor’s Chief Executive, Ted Smith, said today:
“I am very proud that Craegmoor has been able to deliver such a needed service and that our staff will be supporting more people from Luton and beyond to live their lives as independently as possible”.
Luton Borough Council Officer Tamara James, from the Supporting People Team, said:
"We recognise that people who experience mental illness are far more likely to manage their mental health if they are housed in appropriate accommodation and receive the right level of support. This joint partnership working has proved to be very beneficial for Luton."
