Early opening for mental health complex

 A new mental health facility in Birmingham will be completed five weeks early. The £70 million complex, which is at the Queen Elizabeth Medical Centre in Edgbaston, will open its doors to patients this week, reports the Birmingham Mail.A partnership between Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust and Consort Healthcare has been behind the new development, which includes a 64 bed unit and an extra ten bed psychiatric intensive care unit.There is also an extra unit specialising in care for women suffering mental health problems during pregnancy.Kate Phipps, service director for Birmingham, told the newspaper that the development "sets a precedent" for modern mental health services."Our patients are our main priority and we believe the new hospital will not only deliver a safe and dignified environment that promotes hope and recovery," she added.The Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust serves a population of 1.2 million people spread over 172 square miles and has an income of over £200 million per year.  © Adfero Ltd
