OLDER PEOPLE LEARNING DISABILITIES MENTAL HEALTH

New mental health initiative in Bradford

19 May 2008

A new email service to help people with mental health problems has started in Bradford.

The year-long pilot scheme, introduced by Mind, will provide information and support for people concerned about their or someone else's mental health or emotional well-being, reports the Bradford Telegraph and Argus.

It aims to reach out to more people who may not be comfortable talking about mental health problems and will complement the existing telephone-based support service.

Mind has set up the year-long pilot scheme for the service with funding from Bradford and Airedale Teaching Primary Care Trust.

Adam Greatwood, manager of Mind in Bradford, told the newspaper that people in need of immediate support may still have to use the current telephone service for help and support.

"While we promise a quick response to enquiries, the email service is not intended to be for people in crisis, they should continue to use existing services," said Mr Greatwood.

Mind is the leading mental health charity in England and estimates that one in four people will experience a mental health problem at some point in their lives.
