09 July 2008

Cutbacks have been made to over a third of activities for people with learning disabilities, a new report has revealed.

The Learning Disability Coalition has revealed the findings of its Tell It Like It Is report, which found that 34 per cent of people with a learning disability have had their activities cut.

It also found that 37 per cent of people had seen their college courses cut and 77 per cent of people who used designated disability transport services had a "negative experience of them".

Carol Boys, chief executive of the Down's Syndrome Association, said that the report "leaves no doubt" as to what service cuts people are experiencing.

"We need increased funding and services as a matter of urgency, and the government must ensure that their once-in-a-generation chance to reform the social care system is not missed," added Ms Boys.

The Learning Disability Coalition is made up of ten member charities and aims to ensure that public funding is available help people "have the same life chances and choices as everyone else".
