OLDER PEOPLE LEARNING DISABILITIES MENTAL HEALTH

Mental health group exhibits artwork

21 July 2008

Artwork produce by people with mental health difficulties is being showcased in a new exhibition in Yorkshire.

The Inspire group is running the scheme, which will see work by people from Fieldhead Hospital on display at Theatre Royal Wakefield's cafe, the Wakefield Express reports.

Andrew Williams, from the group, said the organisation aims to "build confidence through creativity".

"We are all developing as artists and a project like this is a great way to encourage positivity and self-worth," he told the newspaper.

Describing the artwork as "excellent", Mr Williams said he hoped the exhibition would encourage other people to get involved.

Fieldhead Hospital is managed by the South West Yorkshire Mental Health NHS Trust, which specialises in providing mental health and learning disability services to the Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield area.

As well as providing some specialist services for the rest of Yorkshire and the Humber, the trust is currently applying to become an NHS Foundation Trust.
