Stockton council 'to develop homes for vulnerable people'
23 July 2008
Stockton borough council has received more funding to help develop homes for people with learning disabilities across the region. It has announced the receipt of £2,944,000 of funding, following on from the £5.6 million it received from the Housing Corporation in April, 24dash.com reports. With the funding, accommodation will be redeveloped at three existing schemes across the town and specialist homes for vulnerable people will be built at North Shore.Steve Nelson, Stockton council's cabinet member for housing and community safety, told the news site that the funding was "vital" to help people in the area."In today's current market, it's well known that it has become more and more difficult for people to put their first foot on the property ladder and these schemes will enable those who would never be able to enter the housing market to do just that," he added. It was recently reported in the Malvern Gazette that the Friends of the Elderly charity is applying for permission to extend a dementia care unit in Malvern. © Adfero Ltd
