29 August 2008
The Scottish government is set to invest £1 million in dementia research, it has been revealed. Dementia Clinical Research Network will receive the funds and the studies will be made up of a collaboration between healthcare professionals and expert academics. It is hoped that the partnership will be able to transform academic discoveries about the condition into practical treatments. The network will be based in Glasgow, Grampian, Lothian and Tayside.Making the announcement, health minister for the country Shona Robison described tackling dementia as a national priority, the Glasgow Evening Times reported.Scotland's chief medical officer Dr Harry Burns explained to the newspaper that the NHS in Scotland prioritises research and that the country's support has led to many scientific discoveries and treatments.Research released earlier this week revealed memory decline in old age is not always associated with dementia and can be a part of the natural human aging process. © Adfero Ltd
