The ordinary story of David’s fantastic progress
Coming from a farming background, David was hardworking and fiercely independent – life was therefore made extremely difficult when he had a stroke. Suddenly he became very dependent on other people and, as a result, was very depressed and withdrawn.
When he moved to a Craegmoor service, initially he did not socialise with other people and his family was understandably very concerned for his welfare. Working with David’s family, staff encouraged him to leave his room for short periods of time, which gradually became longer and longer. The next step was to encourage him to take his meals in the dining room. This took several months, but staff and his family persisted and it paid off.
David now spends his day socialising in the lounge with others and loves attending parties and social events. David has made fantastic progress and his family believe is almost back to his old self.
