Aire House is a small, 24 hour service providing quality support for adults with learning disabilities. We have 8 bedrooms, 2 of which are en-suite, and can offer short or long term stays. We have a minimum of 2 staff on duty but we also offer additional 1:1 staffing where it is required. We have a sleep over person and a wake night person on shift through the night and we also have a nurse call system in place in each room.

What it's like to live here

Aire House offers individual activity and educational programmes which are formulated and agreed with each individual and then reviewed as required to ensure that individuals' abilities and needs are being identified and met.

Educational activities include attending the local college, adult training centres, and our own vocational skills centres. Within the Home we continually and consistently promote the development of social skills, independent living skills and personal responsibility.

These include daily living skills such as cooking, baking, laundry, cleaning etc. Tasks can be as basic as wiping a table to a more complex task of independently using a washing machine depending upon an individual’s ability.

We provide opportunities for many social occasions such as eating out, shopping, going to music concerts, football or rugby matches, day trips to local (and sometimes not so local!) attractions, theme parks, visits to the local Turkish Spa baths and much, much more. We also support everyone to have home visits (day visits and short stays) as well as an annual holiday. This year we stayed in a cottage in Cumbria.

Surroundings

Approximately a two minute walk away there are local shops including a pharmacy, a post office, a newsagent and a small supermarket. There is also a large local park. There are 3 local swimming pools, all of which we can easily access either by bus or using the service vehicle.

Harrogate has a main college just outside of town as well as some smaller learning centres in and around the local area. The main town of Harrogate is approx 1 mile away.

Within the town there is a varied selection of services including national rail and bus links, a large shopping centre and a wide choice of other shops. Also cafes, restaurants, Turkish Spa Bath and a Bowling Alley. There are a number of local hotels, which often host different events as well as the famous Betty’s Tea Rooms!

Service facilities

Aire House is a Victorian property set over four floors with communal areas set over the lower two floors. Aire House is unable to offer placements for long term wheelchair users due to the physical environment of the house. It has paved areas to the front and the rear; at the rear we have picnic tables and in summer we regularly BBQ and spend time outside.

The Home has eight bedrooms, two of which are en-suite. All bedrooms are spacious, well-furnished and decorated to individuals' tastes. Communal areas include the kitchen, dining rooms, laundry and lounge and have all been refurbished to provide a comfortable and homely living environment.

We have rolling menu which is developed by everyone living at the service and reviewed within the monthly ‘Your Voice’ meetings. Individuals are supported to prepare their own meals and snacks. We have a 7 seated people carrier as well as use of a larger minibus from another service.

A welcome from the service manager

Welcome to Aire House. My name is Wendy Yates and I’m the manager. We have 8 people living here who take part in various activities; both recreational and educational. The people who live here are very proud of their home as they have so much involvement in creating it. If you came to visit you could expect a small tour and definitely a cup of tea! I would love to meet you, why not give me a call.
