Newhouse Farm is a 7 bed Low Secure Hospital specialising in the rehabilitation of individuals with Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Newhouse is situated on the outskirts of Cardiff in the village of St. Fagans with easy access by road and bus, and a short journey to the nearest rail station.
The Hospital
Newhouse specialises in the care and treatment for adults with Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Tastefully decorated throughout to meet the requirements and needs of each individual client. The clients have varying levels of learning difficulties and are all supported by experienced staff who ensure their physical, intellectual, emotional and social needs are met. The large conservatory and airy lounge offer a relaxing atmosphere and a quiet retreat. The residents are encouraged to personalise their own space.A key philosophy is that our residents maintain as much independence as possible and through the support and care achieve their full potential in life.
The Treatment
The treatment at Newhouse is delivered by a dedicated and professional multi-disciplinary team. Clients have an individual care package, specifically planned to reflect their personal needs and choices. A key worker is assigned to each resident ensuring a holistic approach to individual care and daily fulfilment. We encourage clients and families to actively participate in the planning of care, which is continually monitored. Standards and values are further promoted by ensuring that the clients are given positive choices. This is facilitated through residents and relatives meeting where information is provided and the residents’ views and suggestions are listened to and responded in a positive manner. Newhouse promotes Craegmoors’ communication strategy called “Your Voice” which ensures that each individual, based on their preferred method of communication, is able to have a voice on how their supported care is provided. Monthly service user meetings are held where individuals are able to represent the views and voices of fellow service users. This is extended to a voice at area, divisional and national level. Newhouse liaises with families, community organisations, social services departments and purchasing authorities to support Person Centred Care Planning, and ensures full account is taken of social, emotional, cultural and spiritual needs of all individuals.
The Facilities
The clients participate in swimming, bowling, trips to the cinema, outings to pubs, and shopping. College courses are available and include music and movement, communication and gardening. We also arrange holidays in the UK or abroad. Residents are encouraged to pursue and retain their own interests.
